With increased momentum spurred on from the Biden administration in 2023, the offshore wind community is set to expect an uncertain industry going forward. With setbacks like project cancellations and emerging problems with PPAs, navigating this new potential will be challenging.   Despite the challenges, U.S. authorities have full faith that the goal to deploy 30 GW of offshore wind by 2030.

Senator Marc Pacheco of Massachusetts said “It’s going to be extremely important, as we move forward together as a region, to maximize the potential for offshore wind in our part of the U.S.”

In relation to collaboration to limit project cancellations, says Christopher Keams, Commissioner of Rhode Island, “We’re very excited about the future ongoing discussions and collaborations, not only about procurement but also about maximizing federal dollars from the Department of Energy transmission upgrades.”

Michael McMahon, Senior Supply Chain Development Manager, Orsted commented “I would love to see a standardization of supply chain but the greater diameter is going to generate more money.”
