Heavy lifting: The struggle to safeguard human rights
When the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive legislation was  passed last year,  it was hailed as a game changer in the drive to push companies  to both find and fix human rights abuses in their supply chains. According to the World Benchmarking Alliance  90% of major companies are not even half-way to meeting fundamental societal expectations in this area. 

But a series of proposed changes to weaken the rules, which will be finalised when EU legislators meet in September, have left the CSDDD in tatters. In the August-September issue of Ethical Corporation magazine we assess the state of the business and human rights agenda, looking at where the biggest gaps are, from the fashion industry to mining and agricultural commodities, and highlight where progress is being made to address them.
