The energy storage revolution
With renewables like solar and wind now cheaper than fossil fuels, the big challenge of the energy transition is no longer a shortage of green electrons, but grids struggling to adjust to their intermittent nature.

There is now five times more renewable capacity stuck in connection queues than the total amount of renewables installed in 2024. Meanwhile, record levels of renewable power were curtailed last year because their energy couldn’t be fed into grids.

That is why being able to store green electricity to use when and where it is needed is now viewed as foundational for the energy transition.

In the March-April issue of Ethical Corporation we look at how the fall of prices for both long- and short-duration energy storage, new battery technologies and virtual power plants are unlocking one of the key barriers to shifting away from fossil fuels
